Sundhedsskadelige svampe kan være meget andet end skimmelsvamp. Faktisk er der over 30 arter, der kan leve i bygninger, og de har mange forskellige former, farver og aftegninger. Fælles for dem er, at de angriber og nedbryder trækonstruktioner.

Når man taler om svamp i huset, findes der de typer, hvor nedbrydningen af træet går langsomt, og de betegnes som råd. Når svamp er i en tilstand, hvor de på kort tid er i stand til at nedbryde materialer af væsentlig betydning for din bolig, kalder man det et svampeangreb.

– og her er ægte hussvamp den, de fleste husejere møder og frygter. Den kan forårsage omfattende ødelæggelser i trækonstruktioner, vokse hurtigt og kan også brede sig til fx murværk. Den er visuelt nem at genkende, og det er vigtigt at få bugt med den, da den kan brede sig meget hurtigt, men ikke vokser på sundt træ. Man skal derfor være ekstra opmærksom på trækonstruktioner, der er fugtige.

De fleste svampearter bortset fra skimmelsvamp udgør primært en trussel mod bygninger, idet de angriber træværk mm, og således kan forårsage omfattende skader. Men svampe danner også grobund for skimmelsvamp, og de lever af den samme fugtighed og dårlige ventilation. Svamp i huset har således ikke direkte helbredsskadelige påvirkninger, men er der grobund for svamp, er der også grobund for skimmelsvamp. Og det er helbredsskadeligt.

Svamp i huset trives, hvor de kan, dvs. hvor der er fugt, dårligt indeklima og manglende ventilation. Derved opstår de betingelser, der er optimale for svampeangreb.

Det er derfor vigtigt at være opmærksom på alle de steder, hvor der i boligen kan opstå fugt i træværk, sokler, facader, tag, kældre, skjulte konstruktioner og vådrum.
