Klimaforandringerne har skabt flere oversvømmelser i Danmark gennem det seneste årti, og det har betydet, at mange huse har kældre, der i perioder har stået under vand i længere tid. Når først kælderfugt er opstået, er der god grobund for yderligere problemer som svampe og især skimmelsvamp, ligesom dårlig luft og en rådden lugt kan brede sig.

Skimmelsvamp er en usund ting for mennesker at opholde sig i, og den trives især, hvor der er kælderfugt, hvor den kan vokse på alt organisk byggemateriale. Den kan medføre irriterede slimhinder, hovedpine, træthed, svimmelhed og koncentrationsbesvær, og 3-6% af befolkningen vil udvikle decideret allergi over for skimmelsvamp.

Derfor skal fugt i kælder bekæmpes på alle mulige måder, hvis man vil undgå indeklimaproblemer, og ikke mindst for astmatikere og allergikere er det af afgørende betydning for deres helbred, at de ikke lever i eller udsættes gennem længere tid for kælderfugt.
